Casting feedback | Post production |

 Hey,

Honestly I created my characters with the actors already in mind so it made it very easy for the to fit into their roles. I wanted to create characters that would fit my actors strengths so it would flow naturally for them. This allowed me to not have to give casting feedback because I didn’t have an audition.

Most feedback in general that I gave them was during actually shooting scenes and on small things like tone of voice, pronunciation, and body language. Instead of having to help them fit the character while filming I mainly compromised and allowed them to improvise a few lines. I wanted them to also be apart of the creative process and not just feel like they are being told what to do.

Music in my movie | Post production |

Hey

In most movies there is music. However in my movie since it is supposed to only be the 2 minute opener I wanted to have n music that way the dialogue could be heavily focused on because at this point in the movie it is very important as it gives some backstory and insight on what is happening, what the movie is about. Due to these reason I opted out of having background music and instead included a few sound fx such as a crowd cheering and a tv turning on to still not just be bland silence while there is no dialogue occurring.
I feel as if the the presence of diegetic sound over non diegetic is more immersive and allowed me to build more tension through scenes such as Kaelens reaction to the interview.

Editing screen shots | Post Production |

 Hey,

I’m these pictures is a look into my editing process and how I tried my best to do something I was not good at when I started this project. It is a little sloppy I can not lie but it’s mine and I’m proud. You can see all the different words and credits the audio clips and just how many splits there are especially in the third picture.

My Movie Script !!! | Pre-production |

Here is my Script, Honestly it is not at the professional standard but I plan to use it for my film opener.

.

Shot list | Pre-production |

 Hey,

Here is a shot list of all the shots I used In my 2 minute movie opener looking back at this list while filming allowed for the camerawork to go smoother since I knew what shot I wanted to film the scene from.

Location Scouting | Pre-production |

Hey,

Location scouting was simple I would make a mess of my room and use that as Kaelen's room and then I would use my living room as well. However it was hard for me to find the location of a big tree in my area for the third scene.

At first I couldn't find the big tree I wanted for the third scene and was going to use one of these locations while scouting

But then I remembered where this tree was in my complex and it was perfect.
I am really happy that I found it and it has the perfect atmosphere that I wanted.

Representation | Pre-production |

 Hey,

Every film in my opinion should represent something or someone in the way that a book has a theme. For my film I want to represent minorities and how their peers can exclude them. Specifically African Americans throughout history have been excluded out of many things such as Wealth, property, political power, Education, etc. There are many films that represent the struggle of African Americans in society but I wanted to specifically showcase how minorities tend to be excluded or they feel unwelcome when they enter new areas. I want to show this through my Character James a black boy whos mom married into a Hispanic family and when he tries to be apart of the family gym and family boxing he is turned away.

In my movie I also want to represent something that many people know about but many people also overlook. The pressure that athletes feel should be talked about more, especially when it comes to combat sports because in the cage or ring it could be life or death and all that pressure can turn a fighter into a diamond or a punching bag. This is mainly shown in sports dramas like southpaw were the pressure of winning for his wife and daughter at first left Hope depressed but in the end he rose above the pressure to get his daughter back which I think I beautiful. In my movie I want to use Kaelen to show the toll that pressure takes on a fighter as much as I can in the 2 minute movie opener.

Both of these mean something to me and I wanted to represent them in my Movie because I think they are important.

Equipment needed for my movie | Pre-production |

Hey,

For my movie I am going to need some equipment including technology. Im not going to  need a lot because i want to keep it simple, but I will need :

  • A camera
  • Somewhere to record audio
  • Editing Software
  • Place to right down ideas
  • Costumes
  • Few props

For my camera I have decided to use my iPhone 14 since it can record good quality videos that can be further enhanced and it is convenient. For audio I have chosen to use Voice memos for the same reason.
For my editing software I have chosen Adobe Premiere Pro since it is a commonly used editing software by real film companies and I have the ability of using it for free from my school. A place to right down ideas is essential so if i am ever brainstorming I can write down what I though of and i wont forget it. Costumes can be very simple and I have not yet finalized them but i have a vague idea of what i want them to be. There will be few necessary props like a gaming PS5 controller for the first scene and a Christmas tree because I want the movie to take place during Christmas time and holidays.

Film Scheduling | Pre-production |

Hey,

One of the trickiest parts so far of filming this movie is scheduling filming dates and times. Sometimes a day is good for everyone and one person can’t or only one person can’t. It requires a lot of patience but after a while I was finally  able to schedule some dates over winter break when my actors and I can film.

December 7th and January 3rd are the two dates so far.

Here is me setting it up with some of my actors.

Casting actors in my movie | Pre - Production |

 Hey,

My movie needs actors and I have asked some of my friends to play the roles as well as myself.

 Main characters

Kaelen Rivers :  I Kaze Andino will be playing Kaelen the Main Protagonist

James Gallo ( Sterling ) : My friend Marquis Coleman will be playing James the Main Antagonist (Not really a villain per se)

 Side Characters

Domonic Gallo : My friend Zeherre Hugley will be playing Domonic or Dom for short (Off screen comment since I only have tow minutes)

Caleb : My friend Kaden Mathew will playing Caleb

Koa Vance : My friend Westley Knight will be playing Koa

Luke : My friend Wilhelm Lukaszuk will be playing Luke

 How and Why them?

I asked my friends to act in my movie because I know I can count on them and I also know that they can fit the roles. For example Me Kaden and Will all do MMA so I know we could fit the characters I created. Marquis is tall and muscular so I know he can fit the role of James who I wanted to be a little intimidating I also needed James to be African American to highlight a social group and social issue and marquis is. Koa Vance I imagined as a kind influencer and my friend Westley is Kind and he is tall which allows him to play the character with the highest age, therefore I feel like he can fit the role.

Character Development Worksheet | Planning (Pre-production) |

Hey,

We did an assignment in class again to help us with our movie. In this assignment we were tasked with outlining the characters who will be in our movie.
Here is my Worksheet:

This worksheet like the last one helped me a lot because I really go the opportunity to write down all the ideas I had for my characters and the dynamics I wanted between them. I got there ages and personalities down and had them similar to the actors I have in mind to play them, which I know will make it so much easier to film.

Setting/Locations in my film and why does that fit my story | Planning (Research) |

Hey,

The setting of my film is December in a average sized modern American town where many boxers come out of.

I want it to be this way so it is obvious and reasonable that the fight is as hyped up as it is ( the two best amateur boxers from a boxing town are about to fight).

Kaelen's unkept room and living room are included as well as a big tree at a park.

I wanted the setting to be this way and I think it fits the story because he is so focused on his fight that  he doesn't have the time to clean his room.

I think the big tree fits because it creates this atmosphere that is susceptible to suspense which is what I want present during the scene it will be featured in.

While his room is messy, the living room should be clean because he alone is not in control of this area.

I think these locations fit my movie and I can find them in real life to create the vision I have.

Logo design | Research |

Hey,

I need to make a logo for my studio and looking for inspiration I found some studios with well known films in the sports dram genre. One of them being Metro Goldwyn Mayer now owned by amazon. They are responsible for classics such as the Rocky and Creed films which are in my personal opinion are some of the best sports dramas ever.

This is their logo and honestly I like it. It has character and is iconic, everyone knows the lion coming out of the circular film reel.

Another company was Warner Brothers one of the best known film companies in the world. They have made many notable movie in this genre but I personally watched The blind side (2009) and King Richard (2021).

This is their logo and its iconic. Having been in so many films outside of  this genre it is very well known and is simple but amazing.

The last company I mainly took inspiration from is Walt Disney arguably one of if the most famous and best film company of all time.

This is their logo and there have been many changes over the years even since I was a little kid seeing the logo on Disney DvDs and know with Disney plus. It is again iconic and cool.

What do all 3 of these logos have in common you may ask ? Well not only are they all iconic and well known they all have character and represent their company well. For example the castle perfectly fits Disney a company that makes movies in dream worlds about princesses and kingdoms. These logos gave me motivation and inspired me to create a logo that represents me and my company.

The logo I ended with is this

This logo is colorful and represents me because my name Kaze is the Japanese word for wind so I thought a tornado which is a wind storm could be cool with the Kanji(symbol) for wind as the A in my name. I used Vistaprint.com's GenAI Logomaker to make this logo for free using Ai.

Student production Worksheet | Planning (Research) |

Hey,

We did an assignment in class to help plan out our ideas for the movie project and it honestly helped a lot. The work sheet helped me figure most of the specifics out.

This area of the worksheet especially helped since I was able to plan out the scenes and who was going to be in them.

The first and third scenes will be the most important. This is because I want the first scene to be a one take, so its gonna take some time to get it right. it also is the scene that will open the film. The third scene will also be important because this is where i want to provide background and really set the stage for what the rest of the film would be about.

The second scene is short and only is meant to set up the third scene and the fourth scene is also short and only provides a cliffhanger.

This area of the worksheet also helped since it allowed be to create a general synopsis of my movie and also allowed me to brainstorm the different equipment and locations i would need to actually film.

Character stereotypes for my genre | Research |

Hey,

In sports dramas there is usually a coach or mentor who either wants the best for their player/ fighter or they are trying to live out their dreams that didnt come true through them.
Eg. Coach Bombay in the Mighty Ducks

There is also usually a Prodigy who is really good at their sport and through the movie goes through character development or they stay the same and have consequences.
Eg. Prodigy can be seen as Zendaya's character in challengers

There is also usually an underdog someone who has to work very hard.
Eg. Rocky Balboa

Southpaw (2015) | Research |

Hey,

In order to understand my genre at a higher level now that I can watch movies to analyze and not just for the story, i thought it would be beneficial to watch some of the best sports dramas that I have heard of and seen on social media. The first one I watched was "Southpaw" (2015) which is a movie about the lightweight champion of the world and how his daughter and he deal with the loss of her mother. I would say personally it was an amazing film, more drama than sports. However, the boxing scenes did not feel lack luster in my opinion. I feel that the plot was very emotional and I enjoyed gasping in shock every time something bad happened to the main character. There were parallels between when he fought and his wife was there versus after she passed and we watched him decent into a dark place but by the end he was a newer better man, but that's enough about the story. Looking at it not from a viewer but how it was filmed it was definitely helpful and I have taken inspiration from this film as well as films like it and how typically in all these boxing films persistence and grit are shown by the main characters and how they never give up even when there is a lot of pressure. Since pressure is one of the abstract ideas of my film watching Southpaw allowed me to get a better understanding of how i want to film my movie.

Rocky (1976) | Research |

Hey,

Rocky is one of the most iconic boxing movies of all time and I have seen EVERY single one. 2, 3, and 4 are my top 3 in that order. The first one is the most iconic though and everybody has heard about Rocky Balboa. The amount of famous scenes, iconic moments, and cultural impact this film has made it necessary to research and rewatch from a new view point so I could take some inspiration from some of my favorite movies when i was a kid.

Throughout Rocky 1,  Rocky goes through an atmosphere of pressure.
pressure to achieve his goal. Pressure of being an outsider. Pressure from his relationships with Mickey, Paulie, and Adrian. Not only did he have to deal with pressure he also had to deal with fear, fear of proving all the naysayers right. However he overcame this pressure and even though throughout the movie it effected him in the end he rose above. Stories in films like this have inspired me to try and explore this pressure in my film and i feel pressure is characteristic of many sports dramas.

My Genre | Research |

Hey,

Sports Dramas are some of my favorite films. Movies like the Rocky series including the creed movies, Southpaw, the mighty ducks, the blind side, and many more. There are many classics and this genre is mainly categorized into three sections which usually determines how the movie will go. The underdog story classic story type where a character proves they belong, The fallen grace, where an athlete had it all and lost it all and is trying to get it back, and Social commentary which uses the sport to highlight greater social issues. This is a very diverse genre when it comes to actual sports, there aren't just the big three, there are F1 and racing sports dramas, there are boxing and MMA sports dramas, and there are sports dramas about smaller sports like chess.

One of the reasons I chose to do this genre is because i grew up loving sports and these movies as well. I watched all the Rocky movies and i though he was so cool. Honestly it is probably the karate kid movies i watched that made me love martial arts so much today.

My point is that films in this genre leave an impression whether it is of a crazy match or comeback or and emotional win they impact you and i want to do the same. That is why I have chosen this genre for my 2 minute film opener.

Hello, I'm Kaze.

Hey,

My name is Kaze I am an 11th grade student at Piper Highschool, and I am a student in AICE Media Studies this year. I am tasked with creating the opening for a movie and there will be challenges, but I will complete this task with fidelity. Overall, I want my story to show how determination and hard work are present when people want to achieve something that matters to them.

I think I am ready, but I won’t lie starting this journey I find myself in a gray area between excited and nervous. I feel joyful that I will be able to create something of my own, and I have hopes for my Movie. However, at the same time I feel a sense of pressure to bring my thoughts to life in a way I have never done before. I am excited to immerse myself in the experience and give the best creation I can bring to my audience. I welcome you to the place where I shall detail my thought processes and layout the steps I take as I try my best to make something I can be proud of.

CCR

Hey,                               Here is my video answering CCR question numbers 1&2.                                                 ...
